INDIVIDUAL THERAPY
The psychological consultants provide individual therapy services to adults (18+). Typically, the process starts with a consultation, that includes identifying the client’s problem areas and an explanation of the therapeutic process. If the client agrees that the clinician’s style is a good fit, they will begin the process of developing SMART goals that will inform the treatment plan. Finally, the therapist and client will begin to unpack and process underlying traumas that may reinforce the client’s behaviors across domains.
COUPLES & FAMILIES
When addressing relationship issues, the first goal is to understand that we do not operate in isolation. Our behaviors impact those in our environment and subsequently our interpersonal relationships can suffer. When our relationships deteriorate, it sometimes results in problems with communication, mood, anxiety, self-esteem, etc. The insight gained from exploring these relationships and environmental triggers can be used to dismantle our dysfunctional thought patterns and change our perceptions of relationships and future situations.
PSYCHOLOGICAL TESTING & ASSESSMENT
The Psychological Consultants specializes in psychological assessment (ages 7+). Dr. Leak and his team offer comprehensive psychological evaluations to assess for cognitive, academic, executive, and socio-emotional functioning strengths and needs. We also offers additional options to assess for: autism, language and communication problems, adaptive functioning, and a variety of other disorders.
Fees
The Psychological Consultants are in the preferred network for CareFirst/BCBS. We can submit claims on the client’s behalf for any commercial BCBS plan. We are NOT in network with any other insurance plans including Medicaid and Medicare. For all non-BCBS clients, our services would be considered Out of Network. After each session, we will provide you with a statement (or superbill for testing) that you can submit for reimbursement through your insurer. Payment is expected at the time of each service.

CANCELLATION POLICY
If you need to cancel your appointment, please do so at your earliest opportunity. We have a 24-hour cancellation policy. Sessions canceled with less than 24 hours will be subject to a late cancellation fee.

Dr. Leak specializes in psychological assessment of all age groups (ages 8+), specifically diagnosing issues that impact behavior, mood, attention, and learning. His testing library includes assessments for cognitive functioning, academic functioning, executive functioning, socio-emotional functioning, and autism spectrum disorder. In addition, Dr. Leak can assess for concerns related to language processing, fine motor deficits, memory problems, and adaptive functioning.

Dr. Leak offers a systems approach when providing psychological therapy to clients. He specializes in offering treatment for a variety of stressors including mood disorders, anxiety, self-esteem, relationship problems, and transitional life issues. There are many models of psychological treatment that have all been proven effective through research. Before you agree to treatment, it is important to understand your treatment provider's modality to determine whether it is a good fit for your needs.
In systems therapy, the goal is to first understand that we do not operate in a vacuum, and that we are constantly bombarded with environmental messages that sometimes result in problems with mood, anxiety, self-esteem, etc. The insight gained from exploring these environmental triggers can be used to change how we react in future situations. As human beings, we are all biologically vulnerable to experience mental health disorders, although they may manifest in different ways and to different levels of severity. At the same time, we are all exposed to environmental stressors that can interact with our predispositions. With any therapist, it is important to develop SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Timely) goals that allow us to gain insight into our vulnerabilities and surroundings, to better understand why we react the way that we do.
